I started writing out the plans for another sweater during the Super Bowl, while taking breaks from my tedious work from home job. Was it me, or did it seem like there was a commercial break every few minutes? It slowed my working down, because I kept turning my head to see what the next commercial would be. What I saw of the game was....eh.
As with the first top, I rewrote the handknitting directions to avoid any suprises. I hardly ever read through the the whole pattern before I start when I'm doing it by hand outside of a quick once over, but it's nice to go through step by step. I write down how many rows there will be at each key point in the pattern, since it's hanging off of the machine, and I don't want to try to remove the fabric, measure it and then put all the stitches back on the hooks. With my vest, it felt like I was knitting it for the second time in a row when I started. That was a nice feeling. I felt like I knew what I was doing!
Then I got the bright idea to try making different stitch patterns instead. I pulled out my Japanese charted pattern book and started to see which patterns I could do on the machine that I liked, and that wouldn't make me lose my mind if I work them over something wider than a stole or scarf. I have to dig up my graph paper, because the charts in the book are tiny.
I overslept today and didn't get much done, so I hope to finish my pattern notes tomorrow. I have to remember to check for new homework. Every week I keep forgetting I have homework.

...and I thought you could only do stockinette stitch with a knitting machine...
