Lest I completely forget.

I'm posting this now, because if I wait until tomorrow, I'll procrastinate again.

This is one of the projects I finished this summer. One of the few, the proud....the Abydos Vest. It is from Doris Chan's Amazing Crochet Lace, a book you should take a look at if you're into crochet at all, and are open to wearing it. I started this project because I had just finished a cardigan (I haven't gotten a picture of that one yet), and I was feeling lucky after making my first crocheted sweater. I had some Caron Spa in Rose Bisque that I wanted to use up. I wasn't enough to make the Doris Chan pattern I originally had my eye on, but it was more than enough for Abydos.

It took about two weeks to finish, but in reality I probably spent four or five days on it. I didn't work on it every day since I like to sleep when the sun is out. I used an I hook, so the piece grew at a good rate when I did work on it. I did have to pay attention because the yarn splits, and I wanted to make sure my loose stitches didn't look like crap, which is what happens when I try to work loosely.

The day finally came when I blinked, rubbed my eyes, and I had this vest in my lap and two balls of pink yarn disappeared. I stopped a little short of where I wanted it, because I figure gravity will take care of that last inch or two. It's wearable now without feeling cropped.

Thanks, Doris!

Wow, that's a really cute vest. I bet it looks great on you :) Dresses up plain solid color tops. Reminds me a little of the crochet vests my mom used to make for me when I was is high school, but I like yours much better :)
